Article system

"If you would like an article system please reply back in this post. According to PHPfox support, this feature won't be considered unless it has a SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF POSTS"

Below is the ticket I submitted to them.

I really hope this feature is included in Ver. 2 because it is very vital for many social networking websites. Not only does it allow the admin and it's staff to create articles in various categories to provide information to users whether it's dating advice for a dating website, instructionals for a dancing website, or other information pertaining to the niche the website is dedicated to, but it would also allow the website to be more marketable because it will have core content instead of just alot of random stuff from members.

Also allowing a section for users to submit their own articles with a comment system that is separate from the articles submitted by the site admin and staff would encourage freelance writers to submit articles to help promote them self and would also make the website itself more rich in content.

I can guarantee that no PHPFOX user would oppose to this add-on as it is very vital in providing content to our users and for marketing our websites.

Theres free social networking scripts, and several free scripts in general that have a built in news system for both admin/staff and for the members of the website. Although they are free software, they seen the importantance of this feature and as a paid script which also needs to be paid to obtain updates I think PHPfox should seriously consider this feature.

Yea i can use your freelance service, but what do I do when their add-on is not compatible with a future version of phpfox? This feature coming from PHPfox directly would ensure proper updates and compatibility with future versions of phpfox.

As i said before I don't mind paying for this add-on as long as it was kept up2date, supported by phpfox, and sold for a fair price. However I would hope charging for the add-on for be a last resort situation.

I'm definitely surprised this hasn't been created, yet.

This is probably the biggest part of any site... being able to create content is huge -- so I DEFINITELY support this request and would like to request it, myself.

My suggestion is to whoever has the vBulletin integration to look for a vB articles add-on - then just add it on and make it look like it's part of PHPFox.

You can check out this vBarticle from Mary. She has a lite version with slightly less features on vBulletin.org but this looks pretty good:
http://www.madebymary.com/index.php?page=vbarticles
If that other guy can integrate photopost then any vB add-on can work with a phpfox/vB site - saving you mucho money on custom programming for stuff that already exists/can work.

yep, i had got tired of waiting for someone to make this on phpfox...so i purchased vbarticles a few weeks ago and it all worked out well:thumbs_up:

but, for those who don't have vb, there still should be some sort of article add on for phpfox, but apparently no one wants to make a few extra bucks on it by making one.....

From what they told me, they won't be implementing this until sometime after ver 2.0 is out . However not 100% sure if they will be implementing it or not... but that is when they plan to consider it.

I think a good article system will have two separate sections.

One section for articles developed by the site staff with ability to submit comments, and another section with user submitted news articles with the ability to submit comments.

The last thing you would want is have your professionally written articles from staff, lost in articles submitted by users.

Also think it would be more user friendly if the article listings was just a list with the title, date submitted, and a small description directly under the title.

Also the ability to sort by date/popularity and alphabetically.

right now,
everyone can submit the article and they displays in the order of new articles.

but if some one wants in any other manner, i can alter the code and give to them.

also people asking for option for admin to approve before article appears,
we will add this and then relesae it :)
right now admin can edit and delete any article.

I think this would be a great feature. It should have the ability to add html, pictures, etc. link to th emain page etc. Needs to be SEF.

I think what you've done so far looks good,

I think it definitely needs the ability to add pictures to the article content. Also is it possible to have a page that lists the articles in rating/most viewed order etc. and also have the ability to search through them.

If it did all this, I'd want it, I would use it as a tutorials section instead though. :)

Keep up the good work!

Andy

Will this have categories that users can submit this to, along with the users being able to make a comment on the article?

Hello,

This feature will be added in version 1.7. Once beta testing is done for v1.6 and the software is fully stable by all eyes, work will start on v1.7 with this feature being on top of the "to do" list.

Thanks,
Patrik
